Music at Holy Rosary

“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art.” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 112)

For any questions, comments or inquiries regarding sacred music at Holy Rosary, please contact Dr. Trent Zitzelberger, Director of Liturgical Music, via email or telephone 767-6949.
The psalmist proclaims the Psalm after the first reading and leads the gathered assembly in singing the refrain. Persons designated for the ministry of psalmist should possess “the ability for singing and a facility in correct pronunciation and diction.”

As one who proclaims the Word of God, the psalmist should be able to proclaim the text of the Psalm with clarity, conviction, and sensitivity to the text, the musical setting, and those who are listening. Psalmists are to be adults possessing a good voice, confidence, poise, and must receive training from the Director of Music.

The cantor is both a singer and leader of congregational song. The cantor may sing in alternation or dialogue with the assembly. The cantor may sing the invocations of the Kyrie, lead short acclamations, intone and sing the verse of the Gospel Acclamation and lead the singing of the Agnus Dei.

The cantor may also serve as Psalmist when necessary. Cantors are to be adults possessing a good voice, confidence, and poise, and must receive training from the Director of Music.
The Parish Choir is the primary vocal ensemble of the parish. The choir is a mixed voice (SATB), non-auditioned ensemble. All parishioners with a good singing voice are strongly encouraged to serve the parish as members of the parish choir. The current choir year is from mid-September until Corpus Christi Sunday. During that period, the choir sings at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 9:00 p.m. in the Choir Room.
The Youth Choir is for 3rd-8th graders. The choir rehearses on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Choir Room when school is in session. The Youth Choir sings once monthly, throughout the academic year, at the Sunday 12:15 p.m Mass. Members of the choir who are enrolled in Holy Rosary School also sing weekly at the Friday 8:15 a.m. all-school Mass.
